Richard Downer

Richard Downer has a diverse work experience history spanning over two decades. Richard began their career as a Software Engineer at Agilent Technologies, where they contributed to the development of new products for telecommunications testing.

From there, Richard joined Tadpole Technology as a Software Engineer, working on the Ordnance Survey project and utilizing C# with Microsoft Visual Studio to develop the next-generation computer system.

Following their time at Tadpole Technology, Richard worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Web Advertising. Here, they were responsible for delivering and updating websites with complex requirements, integrating with various third-party systems and custom databases.

In 2015, Richard became a Committer and Foundation Member at The Apache Software Foundation, where they made significant contributions to the Apache Brooklyn project and gained valuable experience with the Apache way of working.

Richard also joined Cloudsoft Corporation, first as a Senior Software Engineer and later as a Lead Software Engineer. During their tenure, they worked on projects such as Monterey, a framework for developing cloud applications with high responsiveness, and played a crucial role in taking the open source Brooklyn project to The Apache Software Foundation.

In 2020, Richard became a Foundation Member at FinOps Foundation.

Throughout their career, Richard has developed expertise in various programming languages and tools, including Java, C#, IntelliJ IDEA, Maven, Jenkins, Bash, and Ruby. Richard has also obtained certifications in AWS Solutions Architect Associate, Developer Associate, and Devops Professional.

Richard Downer attended the University of Warwick from 1996 to 1999, where they earned a B.Sc. in Computer Science. Additionally, they have obtained several certifications, including the FinOps Certified Practitioner from The Linux Foundation in October 2020, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional (DOP) from Amazon Web Services in February 2019, and AWS Certified Developer - Associate (DVA) from Amazon Web Services in February 2018.
