David Thompson has extensive work experience in the field of IT and academic support. David began their career at Star Micronics as an IT Support professional in 1990 before moving on to become a Managing Partner at 3 Wire Media in 1992. In 1999, they worked as an IT Consultant at Gateway before joining Coastline Community College in 2000 as the Director of eLearning Research & Development. Thompson then worked at Coast Community College District, where they held multiple positions, including Director of IT, Academic & User Support (Innovation & Transformation) in 2017 and Senior Director of Infrastructure and Systems from 2019 to 2021.
David Thompson obtained their Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus on Computer/Information Technology Administration and Management from Western Governors University in 2022. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Information Technology from the same institution between 2020 and 2021. Additionally, David earned a BS degree in Computer Science from Computer Learning Centers from 1987 to 1989.

The primary mission of the Coast Community College District (CCCD) is to provide quality lower-division and occupational education to ensure that students from all ages and from all socio-economic backgrounds have the opportunity to achieve their postsecondary educational goals. Inherent in this mission is the provision of transitional instruction and those support services that promote student success. In addition, the District will offer non-credit courses and other community service programs that will meet cultural, recreational, professional in-service, and personal development needs.
