Gregory Phelps MD has a varied work experience in the healthcare field. Gregory is currently serving as the Medical Director of Covenant Health Palliative Care at Covenant Health since January 2021. Prior to that, they worked as the Medical Director at UT Hospice from November 2010, where they provided clinical care, education, and oversaw medical and care plans for hospice patients. Before that, they held the position of Chief Medical Officer at Hospice of Chattanooga starting June 2001. Additionally, they worked as a Staff Physician at Anesthesia Medical Alliance of East TN, PC, where they specialized in pain and palliative care for chronic pain patients, as well as addiction screening. Gregory also served as the Chief Medical Officer of Mercy Health Partners from January 2000 until June 2008, where they were responsible for medical staff services and quality at St. Mary's Health System.
Gregory Phelps MD completed their Bachelor of Science in Biology at the College of Charleston from 1972 to 1975. Gregory then went on to obtain their MD from the Medical University of South Carolina from 1975 to 1979. Later, from 1986 to 1989, Gregory pursued a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Gregory continued their education at the Aquinas Institute of Theology, earning a Master of Arts (MA) degree in Health Care Mission from 2003 to 2006. Finally, in 2008 and 2009, Gregory attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine for a Palliative Care Fellowship.
