Mark Klein serves as the Head of Systems Engineering at CSCS since January 2015, where responsibilities include acting as the Systems Architect and Experienced HPC System Engineer, with notable achievements such as leading the systems for Piz Daint, which ranked #3 on the Top500 list in June 2017. Prior experience includes a role as a System Engineer at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, contributing to the Blue Waters Systems team from July 2012 to January 2015. Mark has also held positions as System Support Specialist IV at both Iowa State University and Ames Laboratory from 2002 to July 2012, along with a Research Assistant role. Mark obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Iowa State University, graduating in 2005, and completed high school at Wahlert High School in 2001.

Founded in 1991, CSCS, the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre, develops and promotes technical and scientific services for the Swiss research community in the fields of high-performance computing. CSCS enables world-class scientific research by pioneering, operating and supporting leading-edge supercomputing technologies. The centre collaborates with domestic and foreign researchers, and carries out its own research in scientific computing. Located in Lugano, in the southern, Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, CSCS is an autonomous unit of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich).
