Martin Birch

Martin Birch is an experienced leader in children's social care, currently serving as the Director of Children and Family Wellbeing at Cumberland Council since April 2023. Prior roles include Executive Director of Children's Social Care and Education at Sefton Council and Director of Children's Social Care at Together for Children. Martin has held senior management positions at various councils, including North Tyneside and Sunderland, focusing on child safeguarding, looked after children services, and service improvement in response to Ofsted inspections. With a Bachelor of Applied Social Studies in Social Work from Oxford Brookes University, Martin's extensive career spans over two decades in social work and children's services management.
