Michael Garrad has a diverse work experience in the events and film industry. Michael started their career as a Team Assistant at the BBC, providing administrative support in both corporate and broadcast/events departments. Michael then moved on to Close-Up Film Centre as an Assistant Manager, where they played a crucial role in formulating strategies and managing staff. Subsequently, they joined Curzon Cinemas, initially working as an Events Coordinator, making logistical arrangements for public and private events. Michael then progressed to the role of Events Programmer, where they managed the public events program, negotiated contracts, and successfully shifted events online during the pandemic. Currently, Michael holds the position of Head of Public Events at Curzon Cinemas, where they are responsible for the events strategy, curation of Q&As, film festival partnerships, and the DocDays documentary strand.

Michael Garrad completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Lancaster University between 1999 and 2002. Following this, they pursued further education and obtained their Master of Arts degree in Modern and Contemporary Literature from Birkbeck, University of London between 2014 and 2016.

The most recent venue, Curzon Aldgate opened in East London in January 2017. Curzon's distribution label is Curzon Artificial Eye and was founded in 1975 to release critically acclaimed films to discerning audiences. Since our inception we have championed the work of towering auteurs as well as developing new talent, and have worked with world class directors from Michael Haneke (Amour), Park Chan Wook (The Handmaiden) to Sebastian Lelio (A Fantastic Woman), as well as Rungano Nyoni (I Am Not a Witch), Lars Von Trier (Nymphomaniac) and Clio Barnard (The Selfish Giant). Curzon Artificial Eye has been part of the historic Curzon group since 2006. Continuing in the pioneering spirit of both companies, Curzon launched the Curzon On Demand service in 2010, offering audiences nationwide the opportunity to watch films when and how they want to. As of 2015, Curzon Cinema's became the first commercial cinema group in the UK to pay Living Wage and in 2016 we were accredited by the Living Wage Foundation. In 2017 Curzon won a BAFTA for Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema.
