As COO and CFO, Spencer has a broad range of financial and organizational responsibilities at DCVC. Spencer came to Silicon Valley in the early 1990s and worked as an investment banking analyst at Morgan Stanley. He was mentored in the practice of technology investing by Roger McNamee and John Powell at Integral Capital Partners before becoming a General Partner at Bowman Capital, a multi-billion dollar hedge fund and growth-stage venture capital firm.
In addition to his experience as a general partner, Spencer has experience as a venture capital limited partner through managing the venture capital fund-of-funds program at Capital Dynamics, including overseeing a dedicated venture fund-of-funds program for the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). Spencer also has extensive operating experience, having served in a variety of roles including CEO, COO and CFO at four venture-backed start ups. Spencer received a S.B. with honors in Physical Sciences from Harvard University.
