Rahul Potharaju is an accomplished engineering leader currently serving as the Director of Engineering at Databricks since March 2022. Previously, Rahul held multiple leadership roles at Microsoft from July 2014 to April 2022, including Principal Group R&D Manager for Azure Synapse Analytics, where responsibilities included managing a diverse team and overseeing the reliability and performance of the Apache Spark engine. With a PhD in Computer Science from Purdue University and extensive experience in big data research and engineering, Rahul has contributed to significant projects including the founding of Azure Synapse Analytics and the development of large-scale systems for data ingestion and processing. Prior experiences include research roles at esteemed institutions like Microsoft Research and Motorola, as well as a foundation in entrepreneurship as the founder and CEO of a nonprofit startup comparable to StackOverflow.
