Shannon Egan

Researcher / Founder-in-residence, Probabilistic Computation at Deep Science Ventures

Shannon Egan is a researcher and founder-in-residence at Deep Science Ventures, specializing in probabilistic computation since February 2024. Previously, Egan served as a research scientist at Illuming Power Inc., focusing on electrically conductive composite materials for fuel cell bipolar plates. Egan has a strong background in quantum matter, demonstrated through work as a graduate research assistant at the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, where Egan published theoretical models for 2D materials and developed a computational approach for calculating magnetic properties. Egan's teaching experience includes mentoring new TAs at the University of British Columbia and instructing undergraduate physics courses. Egan's research background includes roles at prestigious institutions such as the University of Toronto, the University of Oxford, and CERN, contributing to advancements in particle physics and machine learning applications in high-energy physics. Egan holds a Master of Science in Physics from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Science with Honours from McGill University.
