Ellen Chien is a seasoned scientist with extensive experience in the field of protein sciences and drug discovery. Currently serving as a Principal Scientist at Denali Therapeutics since October 2022, Ellen previously held the position of Principal Scientist - Protein Purification at Merck from April 2018 to September 2022. Prior roles include Senior Scientist III at AbbVie, where responsibilities included designing and characterizing proteins, and Senior Research Professional at The University of Chicago, focusing on phage display methods for GPCRs. Ellen has also worked as a Senior Scientist at The Scripps Research Institute, co-directing the Center for Membrane Protein Structure Determination, and leading collaborations for GPCR structure acquisition. Prior to that, Ellen was a Senior Scientist at Syrrx, and a Research Scientist at Alliance Pharmaceutical Corp, contributing to drug formulation optimization. Educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Biophysics and Computational Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a BA in Chemistry from Wellesley College.
