Ana Paula Faria, PhD, is a strategic service designer at DEUS, specializing in human-centered AI since March 2023. Faria's expertise includes user research, workshop facilitation, and design operations, contributing to multidisciplinary projects. Previously, Faria served as a UX researcher at Boost IT and Wella Company, enhancing design teams' understanding of user needs through comprehensive user studies. Faria's academic roles include an invited assistant professor position at Instituto Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave and prior teaching experience at Universidade do Minho, alongside a notable PhD fellowship focusing on Emotional Design. With a solid educational background in design, including a doctorate from Universidade do Minho and a short course from the University of the Arts London, Faria's extensive experience spans across various domains in design and user experience.

Welcome to the DEUS initiative - when it became clear the scale of the impact that artificial intelligence will create on all our futures, we felt the need to help shape those futures. We believe that through data, engineering, user-experience and strategy, we are unlocking services that will transform the way we live. Our mission can be summed up very simply: ‘de auxillo auxilium’. We build the 'machines of assistance'. We help to reduce waste, to increase health and safety, to remove inefficiencies. We assist in optimising time, increasing accuracy, minimizing carbon footprints. We use data, design and technology to solve problems and opportunities elegantly, ethically and efficiently. All for the benefit of humans and humanity. It is our responsibility to explore the frontier of AI to create new human(ity)-centered processes that make it easier and cheaper and better to do the right thing. We need to be diligently prepared and smarter to reduce wasted energy. We need to make products and services that adapt to work more effectively and last longer. We humans will design them.
