Matthias Klusch has extensive work experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Information Systems research. Matthias worked at the Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) from 1999 to 2020, where they held various roles such as Principal Researcher, Senior Researcher, and Head of the Intelligent Information Systems Research Team. Their research focused on topics such as hybrid learning and reasoning for autonomous systems and agent-based semantic service coordination. Matthias also worked as a Privatdozent für Informatik (Docent of Computer Science) at Saarland University since 2009 and as an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University of Technology from 2008 to 2014. Matthias was also an Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam from 2000 to 2002 and at Chemnitz University of Technology from 1997 to 1999. Additionally, they worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in 1998.
Matthias Klusch obtained their Ph.D. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Kiel University between 1992 and 1997. Following this, they proceeded to pursue further education, earning a Dr. habil. degree in Computer Science from Universität des Saarlandes during the academic year of 2008-2009.
