Amir Lotfi has a diverse range of work experience in mechanical engineering. Amir started their career at the Research Center of Advanced Industrial Systems, where they worked as a Modeling and Automation Engineer, designing a geometric interface between robots and CNC machines. Amir then moved on to Sharif University of Technology, where they worked as a Research Assistant, focusing on designing, modeling, and controlling a mobile robot for unstructured environments. Following this, they had an internship at Otis Elevator Company, where they conducted modeling and simulation work on elevator safety systems.
Amir then joined Penn State University as a Teaching Assistant and later as a Research Assistant, where they worked on projects involving the control of variable stiffness structures and designing zero-vibration controllers.
After that, they joined Otis Elevator Co. as a Senior Engineer and later became a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer. In this role, they gained significant experience in the elevator industry.
Currently, Amir is working at DMF Lighting as the Director of Mechanical Engineering. Prior to this, they held roles as the Manager of Mechanical Engineering and Principal Engineer/Team Lead at the same company. In these positions, they were responsible for managing talent, building teams, leading product development, and overseeing various aspects of mechanical design and project management.
Throughout their career, Amir has demonstrated success in leading teams, launching products, and contributing to the design and development of various mechanical systems.
Amir Lotfi obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in the years 1998 to 2002. Amir later pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Mechanical Engineering at the same institution from 2002 to 2004. Subsequently, they attended Penn State University from 2004 to 2009, where they acquired a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Mechanical Engineering along with a Ph.D. minor in Computational Science (High Performance Computing). In 2014 to 2015, Amir Lotfi studied at Boston University and earned a certificate in Project Management.
