Dorset Museum, founded in 1845, is the repository and the protector of Dorset's rich past. Behind its Victorian gothic facade on the county town's High West Street, astonishing collections of archaeology, geology, social history, literature and the arts have been assembled, containing artefacts of international significance. 

The importance of these collections is behind the plan to transform the Museum into one of the leading provincial museums in the county, and the heart of Dorset's cultural life.
