Simon Wiles Beng Ceng Miet

Simon Wiles has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Simon is currently employed at Drax Group as a Lead Engineer in the Capital Projects team, where they are responsible for leading the development and construction of significant capital projects in the UK and the US. Prior to this role, Simon worked as an Engineer in the same team at Drax Group.

Before joining Drax Group, Simon worked at Eggborough Power Ltd, where they held various roles including Decommissioning Team Manager, Shift Charge Engineer, and Senior Safety Controller. In these positions, they focused on ensuring safe working practices, promoting environmental diligence, and coordinating the planning of summer outages and station shutdowns.

Simon also gained experience at Roberts CGT Ltd as a Contracts Co-ordinator, where they provided job costing figures and managed wages information for Civil, Electrical, and Utility Engineering Services. Simon also worked at Arbre Energy Ltd as an Operations Technician, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the biomass power plant.

Earlier in their career, Simon worked at H & H Celcon as a Maintenance Technician and at Hi-Drive Ltd as Contracts and Systems Co-ordinator. Simon began their career at ETS (UK) LTD as a Mechanical Maintainer/Fitter, specializing in the overhaul and supply of powershift transmissions and hydrostatic drives.

Simon Wiles BEng CEng MIET has a diverse education history that spans several institutions and areas of study. Simon obtained their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng Hons) in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Leeds Beckett University in 1995. Prior to that, they completed a BTEC National Diploma in Engineering at Selby College from 1990 to 1992. Simon also attended Brayton High School, where they earned their GCSE's in 1990.

In terms of professional development, Simon obtained an Advanced Professional Diploma in Management Development from Leeds Beckett University in 1998. Simon also completed a Level 5 Diploma in Management & Leadership from Brighton School of Business & Management in 2013. Additionally, Simon obtained a Level 3 ILM Certificate in First Line Management from the Institute of Leadership & Management in 2009.

Simon Wiles has also pursued additional certifications to enhance their expertise. These certifications include the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management and the NEBOSH National General Certificate, both obtained in 2023 from NEBOSH. Simon also completed The Principles of Carbon Capture and Storage course at Selby College in 2022. Other certifications include Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 - Client from CITB in 2022, IOSH - Managing Safely for the Power Sector from ARMSA Consulting in 2015, Safe Operation/Switching of HV-LV Electrical Systems from Uniper Engineering Academy in 2013, Hot Water Heating & Steam Utilisation from Spirax Sarco in 2010, and National Grid Safety Rules 5th Edition – Appointed Person - Operational & Safety Switching Authorised up to 400kV from National Grid in 2006. Simon also obtained certifications in CCGT & CHP Operations and Coal Power Plant Operations from AFNOR Certification in 2005.
