John Hoskyn has worked in the software engineering industry since 1992. John started as a Firmware/Hardware Engineer at Holliday Electronics Ltd, where they developed both the hardware and embedded software for a "Home Services Platform" based on a Motorola 68306 running RTXC. In 1998, they became a Director at Omega Technology Ltd, where they designed and implemented embedded firmware for a Smart Card reader utilizing Philips Mifare Cards. From 1999 to 2017, they worked at Avocent - Connectivity & Control Division as a Staff Firmware Engineer and Senior Firmware Engineer, where they co-architected the MPX range of Audio Visual HD wireless extenders and Avocent's range of analog KVM appliances. Additionally, in 2017 they worked as an Independent Contractor at Astronics AES, designing and implementing a Secure Socket, TCP/IP BroadR-Reach interface and Ethernet switch for an aircraft cabin power supply control system. Lastly, from 2009 to 2017 they were a Senior Software Engineer at Stratos Product Development, where they developed software for a vaccine cooler, designed to keep vaccines cold in 3rd world countries.

John Hoskyn has an educational background in Telecommunications Systems and Computing and Electronics. John obtained a NZCE from the Central Institute of Technology and a NZCE from the Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology.
