Position Overview: The Senior Associate, Market Operations at NYCEDC is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Public Markets portfolio. Key functions include overseeing porters and security staff, coordinating with maintenance and marketing contractors, and handling tenant and vendor relations. The role also involves attracting new business, developing community-based programs, and fostering relationships with market partners. Additionally, the Senior Associate assists with leasing, permitting, and building systems maintenance. This position is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and vitality of public markets, contributing to both community engagement and organizational goals. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Operations and Maintenance 

  • Diagnose maintenance, repair issues, and coordinate with contractors for resolution  
  • Maintain protocols, procedures, and policies for staff conduct  
  • Respond to emergencies (24/7) as needed 

Annual budget and Forecasting 

  • Prepare and manage all revenue and expense budgets, track spending and billing 
  • Review, and approve market expenses; work with senior staff to reduce operating costs 

Programming and Community Relations  

  • Consult community partners to schedule events and programming 
  • Assists with marketing efforts and special projects; ensure branding and promotional materials are on message 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local officials and stakeholders 
  • Identify marketing opportunities and coordinate events with community partners 

Leasing 

  • Act as on-site liaison for leasing opportunities; develop RFEIs and RFPs  
  • Negotiates leases, licenses, permits, and agreements including preparation of terms and proposals  

Tenant Management and Relations 

  • Manage tenant agreements, including payments, insurance, improvements, and disputes 
  • Maintain records for tenants/vendor compliance and ensure adherence to market rules and regulations 
  • Communicate on-site between tenants/vendors and NYCEDC; attend Vendor Association meetings as required 

Legal and Due Diligence 

  • Ensure timely submission of legal and NYCEDC-required documents  
  • Manage procurement processes and collaborate with Legal and Contracting departments for seamless execution  

Requirements:

  • An Undergraduate degree or equivalent in facilities management, property management, urban planning, real estate, business, event planning, marketing, hospitality, or a related field 
  • 5+ years in market, building or restaurant management, including oversight of staff or tenants  
  • Demonstrated communication skills and experience presenting to various audiences  
  • Strong customer service, client coverage, and community involvement  
  • Proven project management skills and ability to work collaboratively in teams 
  • Proficiency with general computer and financial software  
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work independently  
  • Ability to work well in the field with minimal oversight 
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire 
Salary Range
$85,000$87,000 USD
