Juan Carlos Florez Varon is a seasoned agronomist with extensive experience in plant breeding and genetic research. Currently serving as a Senior Research Agronomist at ED&F Man, Carcafe since January 2021, Juan Carlos previously held the position of Plant Breeding Manager at Clever Leaves, where responsibilities included evaluating seed germination and researching innovative breeding techniques. Prior to that, Juan Carlos worked as a Genetically Modified Organisms Consultant at Invima, focusing on defining requests for genetically modified organisms and providing training on OGM regulations. Juan Carlos's early career included a role as a Research Associate at Cenicafe, specializing in coffee genetic transformation and genomic extraction. Academic credentials include a PhD in Genetics and Breeding from Universidad Federal de Viçosa, a Master's in Plant Biology from Universidad del Quindio, and a degree in Biology from Universidad del Tolima.
