Edge Case Research
Joe Torralbes has a strong background in engineering and software analysis, with extensive experience in system safety. Joe is currently working as the Principal System Safety Engineer at Edge Case Research since May 2021. Prior to this, they served as a Computer Scientist at the US Army's Test & Evaluation Command, specifically the Aberdeen Test Center - Software Test Branch. In this role, they analyzed software-intensive systems for their impact on system safety and ensured compliance with software safety expectations. Joe also developed detailed test plans to verify software safety and performance requirements. Joe previously worked as an Engineer at Jacobs Sverdrup, again at the Aberdeen Test Center - Software Test Team. Here, they performed analysis on software-intensive systems, executed software subtests to assess safety and overall performance, and generated reports and recommendations related to software safety.
Joe Torralbes earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Elon University, where they studied from 2000 to 2005. In 2012, they obtained a System Safety Certificate from the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.

Edge Case Research was formed by leading autonomy and software safety experts from Carnegie Mellon University who believe that safety should be baked into all software products from the ground up. Founded by people who were first involved in autonomous vehicle safety as far back as the late 1990s, ECR helps customers in the autonomous vehicle and robotics industries to tackle the thorny problems of safe perception, planning, and actuation.
