Elevate Rapid City
Tom Johnson has a diverse work experience in various leadership and development roles. Tom currently serves as the President & CEO of Elevate Rapid City since November 2019. Prior to this, they held the position of Director of Community Engagement and Economic Development at Colorado State University from April 2019 to October 2019. Before joining Colorado State University, they served as the Associate Director of Community and Economic Development from April 2018 to April 2019.
Tom has also worked at the Wyoming Business Council, where they held the position of Chief Performance Officer from February 2015 to April 2018. Tom was responsible for managing five divisions and multiple economic and community development programs. Before this role, they served as the Southeast Region Director from August 2000 to February 2015, where they acted as a liaison between local communities, businesses, and The Wyoming Business Council.
Additionally, Tom has been an Adjunct Professor of Community and Economic Development at the University of Wyoming from August 2012 to December 2017. Tom also has previous experience at the Laramie Economic Development Corporation, where they worked as the Vice President from March 1998 to August 2000, focusing on business and economic development, community relations, and recruitment. Prior to this, they held the position of Marketing & Membership Director from June 1997 to March 1998.
Tom Johnson earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in English Language and Literature, General from the University of Wyoming between 1992 and 1996. Tom then pursued a Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) degree in Accounting and Finance from Regis University from 2004 to 2007. Additionally, Tom obtained several certifications, including a Certified Data Center Professional certification from EPI - Enterprise Products Integration Pte Ltd in August 2013, an Economic Development Finance Professional certification from the National Development Council in 2003, and a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) certification from the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) in 2007.
