Kurt Avarell has had a diverse work experience. Kurt is currently the CEO and Co-founder of Ember since February 2021. Prior to that, they founded Canopy, Inc. in March 2014 and served as the Founder until November 2019. Kurt was also the CEO of Converus, Inc. from January 2013 to August 2013. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, they worked as an Associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley, & McCloy from October 2008 to September 2010, specializing in corporate finance transactions. Kurt started their career as a Financial Analyst at IBM in January 2005.

Kurt Avarell completed their education at Brigham Young University and BYU Law School. Kurt earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting in 2003, followed by a Master's degree in Accounting in 2004. Kurt then pursued a Doctor of Law (JD) degree at BYU Law School, graduating in 2008.
