EU Institute for Security Studies
Steven Everts currently serves as the Director at the EU Institute for Security Studies (September 2023 - Present). Prior to this role, Steven was with the European External Action Service from January 2013 to September 2023, holding multiple senior advisory positions, including lead coordinator for the EU's engagement in the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM). Notable achievements include organizing the ASEM12 Summit and serving as the Governor of the EU to the Asia-Europe Foundation since November 2016. Steven's earlier experience includes roles in the European Commission, where significant contributions were made in formulating EU policies towards key Asian partners and relations with the US and UN. Steven also served as a Personal Representative of the Secretary-General/High Representative for Energy and Foreign Policy within the Council of the European Union. An academic background includes positions as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for European Reform and as a College Lecturer at Brasenose College, Oxford. Steven holds a D.Phil in International Relations from the University of Oxford and an MA in Political Science from Leiden University.
