Simon Franks founded a number of successful businesses including the first company in Europe to stream moving images over the internet and Redbus Film Distribution “RFD”, (now Lionsgate) the fastest growing company in the UK between 1999 and 2003, for which he won the Sunday Times Fast Track. After RFD was acquired by Lionsgate Inc., Simon Franks served for 3 years as special advisor to the CEO and oversaw M&A in Europe and Australia.
Simon Franks was a co-founder of LoveFilm, subsequently bought by Amazon Inc and founder of Redbus Ventures, which is one of the most active funders of early stage companies in the UK. In 2013, Simon Franks was selected as one of the world’s 100 top innovators as part of the “BA Ungrounded” campaign for the G8 summit.
Since 2009, Simon Franks has also focused on philanthropy, establishing the Franks Family Foundation. The FFF runs educational and paediatric health initiatives in Cambodia, Laos and Nepal. The FFF’s New Generation Schools program has been highlighted by the OECD as one of the most impactful interventions in education in the developing world. Simon Franks is a also member of the Cambodian government board overseeing NGS Schools, International Chairman of The Lake Clinic, advisor to Tilganga Hospital in Kathmandu and co-founder of the only modern and free paediatric hospital in Laos.
