Michael Den Herder

Michael den Herder is a Senior Researcher at the European Forest Institute, where responsibilities include serving as the Innovation Broker for the Finnish Regional Agroforestry Innovation Network (RAIN), mapping agroforestry systems in Europe, and translating scientific concepts for practical application in agriculture and forestry. Previous roles include conducting sustainability impact assessments on bioenergy in North Karelia, engaging in participatory scenario development, and analyzing the relationship between bioenergy production and biodiversity. Earlier academic positions include post-doctoral research on the impact of large herbivores and forest management at the Faculty of Forest Sciences at the University of Joensuu, and a PhD focused on herbivore impacts in boreal and subarctic ecosystems. Michael den Herder holds a D.Sc. in Forest Ecology from Joensuun yliopisto and an M.Sc. in Biology from the University of Amsterdam.
