Bernd Tönjes

Bernd Tönjes is the current Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Evonik. Bernd has held this position since January 2016. Prior to this, they were Leiter Digitalisierungsstrategie at Evonik Industries AG from January 2013 to December 2015, where they were responsible for the strategic coordination of the company's digitalization activities in Europe, China, and the USA. From August 2007 to December 2012, they were Sprecher der Geschäftsführung at Evonik Litarion GmbH, where they were responsible for the development, production, and marketing of chemical cell components for large-format lithium-ion batteries for automotive and industrial applications. From January 2005 to July 2007, they were Leiter Projekthaus Process Intensification at Degussa AG. From May 2001 to December 2004, they were Leiter Multi-Purpose Technikum Fluidverfahrenstechnik at Degussa-Hüls AG.

Bernd Tönjes has a Diplom-Wirt. Ing. from the FernUniversität in Hagen, a Dr.-Ing. from Universität Essen in Rheologie und Strömungsmechanik, and a Dipl.-Ing. from Leibniz Universität Hannover in Maschinenbau Fachrichtung Verfahrenstechnik. Bernd also has a Vordiplom from Universität Dortmund in Maschinenbau. Bernd is certified by IBM in Enterprise Design Thinking - Team Essentials for AI, Enterprise Design Thinking Co-Creator, and Enterprise Design Thinking Practitioner. Bernd is also certified by LinkedIn in Data Science lernen: Storytelling mit Daten, Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management in Strategic Change Management, and Scrum.org in Professional Scrum Master I.
