April Borkman resides in Charleston, SC where she works as the Director of Operations for the EMPOWERR Program at the National Crime Victims Center at the Medical University of South Carolina. April has worked for the past 10 years on multiple HIV, STD and unplanned pregnancy prevention projects focusing on minority youth in the Lowcountry. She graduated from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2000 and then went on to receive a Master's in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel in 2006.
It was during her time in graduate school that April became interested in working in teen pregnancy prevention. She became a graduate assistant on a New Morning Foundation-funded project called It’s Up to Me. After receiving her Master’s degree, she moved to Beaufort, SC where she worked as the Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coordinator at the Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) for two years. While in Beaufort she served as co-chair of the Together for Beaufort's Reducing Births to Teens Alliance and the Beaufort County Health Advisory Committee. Upon her return to Charleston, she began work with the Charleston Teen and Family EMPOWERR Program. April has also served as the co-chair of the Charleston County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Council and is a current member of the Charleston County Health Advisory Committee. April is also a trained facilitator of several evidence-based teen and unplanned pregnancy interventions.

Today, we are nationally recognized as a thought leader and innovator among teen pregnancy prevention organizations. The mission of Fact Forward is to improve the health and economic well-being of individuals, communities, and the state of South Carolina and beyond by preventing teen pregnancy and advancing adolescent reproductive health. To achieve its mission, Fact Forward works with a variety of programs - public, private, school and community-based - in all regions of the state.
