Simon Coenen is a Senior Expert in Nuclear Safety at the Federaal Agentschap voor Nucleaire Controle (FANC) since August 2004, where responsibilities include conducting inspections related to nuclear safety across various installations and implementing new regulations. Prior to this role, Simon Coenen served as an Operations Engineer of the BR1 Research Reactor at SCK-CEN from November 1990 to August 2004, managing reactor operations and a team of technicians. Simon Coenen also held the position of Project Engineer, overseeing the design and execution of irradiation experiments. Educationally, Simon Coenen holds a Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Université libre de Bruxelles and a Master of Science in Physics Engineering from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

The Federal Agency for Nuclear Control promotes the effective protection of the general public, workers and the environment against the hazards of ionising radiation.
