Thiyumi Senarathna is an experienced professional in the fields of security sector reform and democratic governance, currently serving as a Senior Security Sector Reform Officer at FBA since August 2019 and as a Planning and Monitoring Officer at International IDEA since June 2016. Previous roles include Strategic Planning Associate at International IDEA, Researcher at Beyond Violence, and Research Assistant for the Democracy and Diversity Programme at International IDEA. Thiyumi Senarathna has also contributed to various projects including co-editing the Strategic Conflict Analysis of Afghanistan and designing surveys for Swedish development actors. Educational qualifications include a Master of Political Sciences in International Relations and a Master of Social Science in Peace and Conflict Studies, both obtained from Uppsala University, where a Bachelor of Social Science in Peace and Conflict Research was also completed.

The Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA) is the Swedish government agency for peace, security and development. FBA supports international peace operations and international development cooperation. The agency conducts training, research and method development in order to strengthen peacebuilding and statebuilding in conflict and post-conflict countries. We also recruit civilian personnel and expertise for peace operations and election observation missions led by the EU, UN and OSCE.
