Mai Thi Nguyen

Filene Fellow For Center Of Excellence For Community Social Impact at Filene Research Institute

Mai Thi Nguyen serves as a Professor at UC San Diego and as Director of the UCSD Design Lab since March 2021. In addition, Nguyen holds positions as a Filene Fellow for the Center of Excellence for Community Social Impact at the Filene Research Institute and as Director of the Academic Leadership Program at UNC-Chapel Hill, both since 2020. As President of Urban Planning Solutions LLC since January 2014, Nguyen has also directed the UNC Center for Community Capital from May 2020 to March 2021 and the Moore Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program from August 2018 to March 2021. Previously, Nguyen was an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina, specializing in Housing Policy, Urban Growth Dynamics, and Social/Spatial Inequality. Nguyen earned a PhD in Urban Planning from UC Irvine, an MA in Sociology from Pennsylvania State University, and a Bachelor's degree in Sociology/Administrative Studies from the University of California, Riverside.
