Head Investigations at FINMA

Florian Schönknecht has extensive work experience in the legal field. Florian started their career as a Trainee at Bär & Karrer in 2000 and later worked as a Law clerk at the District Court of Zurich and the Swiss Federal Supreme Court. From 2005 to 2007, they served as a Law clerk at the Commercial Court of the Canton of Zurich. In 2009, they joined Bär & Karrer again, this time as an Associate. In 2013, they transitioned to the Eidgenössische Finanzmarktaufsicht FINMA, where they held various roles including Head of Investigations for Unauthorised Activities, Head of Investigations of Authorised Activities and Market Transparency, and currently serves as the Head of Investigations.

Florian Schönknecht attended the University of Zurich from 1994 to 2000, where they obtained a lic. iur. degree in Law. After that, in 2003, they received the certification of Attorney-at-law from the Canton of Zurich. Following a gap in their education, Florian pursued further studies in 2008 at the University of Sydney, earning a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Law. Recently, from 2019 to 2022, they returned to the University of Zurich to pursue an Executive MBA, with a field of study focused on General Management and Digital Transformation.
