Derek Chu

Derek is a Principal at FirstMark, where he focuses on Consumer Internet investments in marketplaces and social networks, including POSH, Pickle, and MetaLoop among others.

Prior to FirstMark, Derek was a business operations leader at Airbnb, where he served as Chief of Staff to the Co-Founder & CSO, and helped lead business operations for the Americas' $10B GMV business. He first joined as Corporate Development Principal, where he was on the deal team for the $1B Series F and acquisition of Luxury Retreats.

Derek was previously a Senior Associate at Menlo Ventures, where he sourced investments in Synthego, Tenor (acquired by Google), and The Black Tux. Derek started his career as an Analyst in TMT investment banking at Credit Suisse, and holds a B.S. in Finance with honors from The Wharton School. Derek is a Kauffman Fellow (Class 29), Forbes 30 Under 30 Honoree (2016), and a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
