John Paul Varkey

John Paul Varkey is an experienced software development engineer with a strong background in networking and systems engineering. Currently serving as a Principal Software Development Engineer at Fortinet since September 2022, John Paul is focused on developing a Python AWS Lambda-based backend for Fortiscanner and has worked on data path features in DPDK and microservices for micro-segmentation. Prior to this role, John Paul worked at Cisco for seven years as a Technical Lead, where contributions included XR forwarding packet processing on advanced router architectures and implementing multiple networking features. Earlier experience includes a Senior Software Engineer position at Ericsson, where John Paul worked on SSR Edge Router protocols, as well as internships and educational roles that provided a solid foundation in computer engineering. John Paul holds a Master’s Degree in Computer Engineering from Rutgers University and a Bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication from Cochin University of Science and Technology.
