Michael Widrich

Michael Widrich is a highly experienced machine learning specialist currently serving as a Staff Machine Learning Scientist at Freenome since September 2021, where the focus is on developing advanced deep learning models for early cancer detection using complex multi-modal data. Prior experience includes roles as a Senior and Machine Learning Scientist at Freenome, where relocation to California facilitated further research collaboration. Michael has also contributed to academia as a University Lecturer at Johannes Kepler Universität Linz, managing AI courses and mentoring a team of co-lecturers. Research at the Institute for Machine Learning at the same university involved pioneering work in deep learning methods and attention mechanisms for sequence classification. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Machine Learning and Bioinformatics, as well as Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Bioinformatics and Mechatronics, respectively. Early career experiences include internships focused on automated image processing and control systems.
