Michelle McDonald

Michelle McDonald has a strong background in medical research and academia. Michelle began their career at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in 2012 as a Senior Research Officer, where they focused on studying bone diseases associated with multiple myeloma and breast and prostate cancers. Michelle utilized specialized cell tracking and imaging techniques to investigate the regulation of tumor cell dormancy and activation in the bone microenvironment. Michelle also had teaching and supervisory responsibilities and was involved in establishing collaborations, project design, and grant applications. In 2016, they were promoted to Group Leader, where they led the Bone Microenvironment Research Group. Michelle'sresearch aimed to develop novel strategies targeting the host microenvironment to prevent initiation and relapse in malignant diseases. Michelle focused on understanding key cellular and molecular events governing tumor cell behavior at metastatic locations, particularly in bone. Michelle joined The University of Sydney in 2022 as a Senior Lecturer, furthering their career in academia.

Michelle McDonald completed their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Clinical/Medical Laboratory Science/Research and Allied Professions at the University of Technology Sydney. Michelle pursued their doctoral studies from 1998 to 2000.
