Pietro Supino

Pietro Supino was born in Milano / Italy in 1965 and raised in Switzerland. He has been the Publisher and Chairman of the Swiss media group Tamedia since 2007. Under his leadership Tamedia has doubled in size and was reorganized at the beginning of 2020 to become a company of the newly established TX Group of which Pietro Supino will be the Executive Chairman.

TX Group consists of a diversified portfolio of media and technology holdings: Tamedia (concentrating on the digital transformation of its legacy newspapers from the Zürich Tages-Anzeiger to the Tribune de Genève), 20Minuten, Goldbach Group, TX Markets and TX Ventures.

Pietro Supino is also the Chairman of the Swiss Publisher’s Association Verband Schweizer Medien. Before joining Tamedia in 2007 he attended the Columbia Journalism School in New York, where he has been a member of the Board of Visitors since 2012. He was admitted as an attorney-at-law in Zürich, holds a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences and a Doctorate from the University of St.Gallen. After his studies he had worked as a lawyer and in management consulting before becoming an entrepreneur in 1998.

As a publisher Pietro Supino has summarized his beliefs in the handbook “Quality in the Media” published in German and French. He was at the origin of the Summer Investigative Reporting Course at the Columbia Journalism School and has systematically invested in investigative journalism as well as in the use of new technologies for the benefit of journalism at Tamedia. In that context he has co-founded the Media Technology Center at ETH Zürich. On the European level he has initiated the Leading European Newspaper Alliance of Die Welt, El Pais, Gazeta Wyborcza, La Repubblica, Le Figaro, Le Soir and Tamedia.
