Malas joined Genesis In July 2020 after 18 years with Downers Grove-based Advocate Health Care, the largest health system in Illinois. There, he served as Controller/Director/Executive Director of Financial Services for Advocate Sherman Hospital, Elgin, Ill. His other positions within Advocate included: Vice President Finance and Integration, Advocate Children’s Hospital, Oak Brook, Ill. Executive Finance Director, Shared Revenue Cycle Organization; Controller/Director Financial Services, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Ill.; and Manager Financial Services, Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove, Ill. He began his career in health care as an Accountant II at Advocate’s corporate headquarters, after working in the marketing and transportation industries.
Malas served as Chairman of the Board, Vice Chair/Treasurer and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as Chairman of the Finance Committee for St. Laurence Catholic Church in Elgin, Ill.
Malas graduated from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Operations Management. He also holds a master’s degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance, from Roosevelt University in Chicago.

Genesis Health System exists to provide compassionate, quality health services to all those in need. It contains 665 inpatient beds across the entire health system, and employs 5500 people. Genesis was formed from the partnership of its two predecessor hospitals, Mercy Hospital (founded in 1869) and St. Luke's Hospital (founded in 1885), both in Davenport. Genesis Health System was formed in June of 1994, and now serves a 10 county area with three urban hospitals and three critical access hospitals in eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
