Michael Japs has extensive work experience in the chemical industry, specifically in technology development and engineering. Michael started their career at NatureWorks, where they played a key role in the development and commercialization of lactic acid and polylactic acid biopolymer process technology. In 2008, Michael joined Genomatica as a Senior Process Development Engineer II and later worked in various roles, including Associate Director of Process Engineering, Director of Commercial Technology Development, Senior Director of Process Technology, and currently, they serve as the VP of Process Technology & Engineering. In their current role, Michael leads Genomatica's teams responsible for fermentation, process development, engineering, scale-up, and technology transfer.
