Carmen Sheppard is a clinical scientist bioinformatician at Genpax since May 2022, contributing to innovative infectious disease investigation through the IDEM surveillance tool. Prior to this role, Carmen served as a senior clinical scientist in bioinformatics at UKHSA from October 2021 to May 2022 and worked at Public Health England from April 2013 to October 2021 as a senior clinical bioinformatician, leading bioinformatics efforts in the Vaccine Preventable Bacteria Section. Carmen's experience includes oversight of the pneumococcal reference service and involvement in genomics and whole genome sequencing implementations. Carmen's career began at the Public Health Laboratory Service as a medical technical officer and advanced healthcare scientist, with a foundational background in microbiology through academic studies, including a Ph.D. in Molecular Microbiology and a Master's degree in Bioinformatics from Queen Mary University of London.
