Giampaolo Casolla

Giampaolo Casolla has a diverse work experience that includes roles in data science, research, tutoring, and hospitality. Giampaolo started their career as a private math tutor in 2016 and continued this role until January 2020. In 2017, they worked as a barista at Caffè Nero in Manchester, where they had the opportunity to improve their English skills and experience living abroad. Casolla then transitioned into the field of data science, joining the University of Naples Federico II as a Data Scientist and Research Scientist from April 2019 to March 2020. In this role, they successfully migrated unstructured data to a KG database, performed extensive data cleaning using NLP techniques, and applied clustering and supervised learning using state-of-the-art embeddings. Giampaolo also worked as a reviewer for IEEE, reviewing more than 10 papers on data science topics for IEEE Internet of Things Journal and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics from June 2019 to February 2020. Most recently, Casolla worked at Amazon as a Data Scientist from June 2020 to May 2023. Here, they built an anomaly detection scoring framework and developed a forecasting model for multivariate time series, resulting in significant cost savings for the company. Casolla's next role will be as a Senior Data Scientist at GetYourGuide, starting in June 2023.

Giampaolo Casolla's education history begins in 2007 when they obtained a High School Scientific Diploma from Liceo Scientifico Statale "Vincenzo Cuoco" in Napoli. Giampaolo then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II, which they completed in 2016. Following this, Giampaolo went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Applied Mathematics from the same university, completing it in 2018.

In 2019, Giampaolo attended the eBISS 2019 - Erasmus Mundus European Summer School at Université libre de Bruxelles, where they studied Business Intelligence & Big Data Analytics.

In addition to their formal education, Giampaolo has also obtained various certifications. In March 2020, they completed the Advanced SQL For Data Analysis course, as well as the Data Analysis In Business, Hypothesis Testing: Fundamentals, and Linear Regression For Machine Learning courses, all from Dataquest.io. In April 2020, they completed certifications in Command Line: Intermediate, Data Scientist In Python, Functions: Advanced, Data Analyst In Python, Data Structures And Algorithms, Decision Trees, Deep Learning Fundamentals, Exploring Topics In Data Science, Git And Version Control, Kaggle Fundamentals, Machine Learning In Python: Intermediate, Machine Learning Project, Natural Language Processing, Python Programming: Advanced, and Spark And Map-Reduce, all from Dataquest.io.

Most recently, in January 2023, Giampaolo obtained a certification in Amazon SageMaker Studio for Data Scientists from Amazon Web Services (AWS).
