Roy Marella

Roy Marella is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in metabolic engineering and organism design. Currently serving as a Senior Engineer 2 at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. since June 2020, Roy has held multiple roles including Senior Organism Engineer 1, Technical Sales in Agriculture BD, and Program Lead. Prior experience includes a PhD research position at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability, focusing on the metabolic engineering of Yarrowia lipolytica. Roy also gained valuable experience as an Organism Engineering Intern at Ginkgo Bioworks and as a Technology Research & Development Engineer at PT Rekayasa Industri, where foundational skills in R&D and process engineering were developed. Educational qualifications include a PhD from the Technical University of Denmark, a Master’s degree from Delft University of Technology, and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Institut Teknologi Bandung.
