Salim Hakimi is a seasoned agricultural scientist with extensive experience in biotechnology and plant pathology. Currently serving as a Principal Field Research Scientist at Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc. since October 2022, Salim previously worked as an Independent Native and Transgenic Traits Discovery Consultant since March 2019. From January 2020 to June 2023, Salim held the position of Research Scientist and North America Field Manager at Joyn Bio. A significant career highlight includes a tenure at DuPont, where Salim developed and patented transgenic corn resistant to corn rootworm, conducting research for Pioneer Hi-Bred International since 2004. Earlier work at Monsanto involved leading a team in the screening and characterization of transgenic potato and wheat lines focused on plant disease control. Salim has also made contributions as a Plant Pathologist at CGI between 1987 and 1990. With seven patents filed and multiple achievement awards, Salim Hakimi has established a notable footprint in agricultural science.
