Paal Gisholt served as CEO of SmartPak Equine until 2017 after co-founding the company in 1999. Paal and his team built SmartPak into a leader in equine e-commerce by combining a disruptive business model, a strong brand, and using technology to create a compelling customer experience. Paal is passionate about the power of a winning culture to deliver strong business results and was named one of the country’s “best bosses” by Winning Workplaces/Fortune Small Business. He was also named an Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Prior to starting SmartPak, Paal was a General Partner with Spray Venture Partners where he helped to raise its first fund and financed startup companies in the medical technology sector. Previously Paal was with private equity firm Advent International, where he worked in both its Industrial and Healthcare groups from 1989 to 1997. Paal started his career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company.
Paal holds a B.A., Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A., with distinction, from Harvard Business School.
