John F. Bryant serves as Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director, Absolute Return Strategies. Mr. Bryant joined HMC in 2014, serving as Director and Co-Portfolio Manager of the Harbert Discovery Fund until January 2019. As Head of Absolute Return Strategies, Mr. Bryant leads HMC’s hedge fund business, develops new investment strategies under the HMC umbrella, and oversees strategic initiatives. Mr. Bryant also serves as Senior Advisor to the Harbert Discovery Fund.
Mr. Bryant serves on the Board of Perceptron, Inc. and previously served on the Board of STX Healthcare Management Services, Inc. Before joining HMC, Mr. Bryant earned an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Raven Society. Prior to that, Mr. Bryant worked at BlackRock, a multinational investment management corporation, where he was a Vice President. At BlackRock, Mr. Bryant focused on developing, seeding, and launching new proprietary investment funds, including mutual funds, hedge funds, fund-of-funds, specialized alternative investments, closed end funds, and opportunistic investment products. Mr. Bryant has a BA in Economics, cum laude, from The University of the South.
Mr. Bryant is involved in his local community, serving on the Board of PreSchool Partners, a local charity dedicated to the belief that every child deserves a quality preschool education, and the TumTum Tree Foundation, America’s longest running wine auction supporting children’s charities.
