Job Overview  

Harlem Grown is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Intern to support our Education Program Department. This internship offers hands-on experience in early childhood education, culinary instruction, and professional development, including resume writing and interview skills workshops. Reporting to the Education Program Manager, the program intern will assist in delivering in-school, after-school, and cooking education programs. Duties include preparing materials for lessons, food preparation, and co-teaching alongside Harlem Grown Educators. Interns will also have the opportunity to write their own lesson plans and receive coaching from HG staff and educators.  

 

Responsibilities: 

• Student Transportation: 

• • Pick up students from designated schools with Harlem Grown Staff and safely transport them to the program site. 

• Classroom Facilitation and Behavior Management: 

• • Create a positive and structured environment for students. 

• • Manage behavior and maintain classroom order in alignment with program  

• • Support with co-teaching engaging, age-appropriate programs for children and their families in our after-school programs 

• • Collaborate with Harlem Grown program staff to prepare educational lessons, and clean up at the end of the programs 

• Cooking Program Support: 

• • Assist with cooking preparation, including ingredient prep, including set up and break down. 

• • Facilitate and lead hands-on cooking activities with students. 

• • Managing and organizing recipes in the team’s shared drive. 

• Farm Stand Hosting: 

• • Organize and operate farmstands at partner schools, promoting healthy food options. 

• • Engage with students, families, and community members at farm stand events and help promote Harlem Grown’s programming. 

• Family Engagement Project: 

• • Develop and lead a family engagement initiative to strengthen connections between the program and participant families. 

• Other Duties 

• • Assist the management team in organizing and maintaining student files, including paperwork. 

• • Manage and track the inventory of shared program supplies. 

• • Serve as a role model for youth and reinforce Harlem Grown’s values of honesty, respect, and responsibility 

• • Other duties as assigned 

 

Basic Qualifications: 

• Experience working with youth (can be personal)  

• Must be high-energy and enthusiastic while working with the public in a variety of settings     

• Interest in education and teaching 

• Interest in nutrition, urban farming, and/or sustainability  

• Strong organizational skills 

• Ability to work as part of a team and independently  

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience working in in-school or afterschool youth programming 

• Experience working in kitchens  

• Connections to the Harlem community
