Carmen Maurer

Trustee at Hastings College

Carmen Maurer ’78 is a graduate of Hastings College, earning a B.A. with majors in Business Administration and Economics. The College’s mentored independent study program was critical to her passing the C.P.A. exam in 1977, prior to her graduation. She continued her education at the Creighton University School of Law, graduating and joining the Nebraska bar in 1981. Upon completion of her education, she served as a clerk for the Nebraska Supreme Court for one year and then engaged in the private practice of the law. For the past 30 years, Maurer has served on the in-house legal staff of the University of Nebraska, with a practice emphasizing exempt-taxation, commercial transactions, policy drafting, governance and athletics. For nine of those years, she served as Corporation Secretary for the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska.

Maurer is very active in the Lincoln, Nebraska community, including the music and mission programs at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, the Interfaith Housing Coalition, neighborhood revitalization and P.E.O. She joined the Hastings College Board of Trustees in 2020.
