James Solberg has an extensive work experience in various engineering roles. James is currently employed at HDT Global as a Principal Engineer - Artificial Intelligence. Prior to this, they worked at Brunswick Corporation as a Staff Engineer - Technical Advisor where they led advanced engineering projects for Mercury Marine and Life Fitness. James also worked at Kinea Design, LLC / HDT Robotics, Inc as a Sr Controls Engineer, where they were involved in developing perception algorithms and electric-field sensing hardware for an autonomous underwater robot. Additionally, they worked at Northrop Grumman as a Physicist, designing hardware and software for unmanned aerial vehicle imaging sensors, and at Northwestern University - Laboratory for Intelligent Mechanical Systems as a Researcher, advancing the state-of-the-art in multi-modal sensor-fusion techniques for localization and mapping. James also served as a Research Engineer at Northwestern University - The Feinberg School of Medicine.

James Solberg earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1997. James then pursued a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the same university, completing it in 1999. In 2000, they obtained a Master's degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Sydney. James continued their education at Northwestern University, where they earned a PhD in Robotics in 2007. In 2017, James pursued additional education by completing the Self-Driving Car Engineer Nanodegree program offered by Udacity.
