The Junior Scientist in the Flow Cytometry Department contributes to patient testing, our quality programs, and translational and/or basic science research in the Flow Cytometry section. A strong work ethic along with an organized, innovative, and solution-oriented mindset is essential for completing this role. Effectively collaborating with directors, supervisors, scientists, and technicians/technologists is vital for this role.

The specific focus of the role will be on training and development in both wet and dry lab aspects of patient testing, as well as developing an understanding of operations and quality management of the Flow Cytometry department, from specimen accessioning to reporting. These will include specimen accessioning, panel selection, specimen processing, cell sorting, instrument operation/maintenance, clinical data analysis, and patient reporting. Following initial training, the Junior Scientist will be eligible to participate in clinical analysis upon completion of initial proficiency testing. In addition to clinical training, the Junior Scientist will participate in research projects, both internal R&D and for external publications. The distribution of responsibilities is determined by the Director. The general hours are 9 AM-5 PM but are flexible, and this is an onsite/in-person position. At times, hours may be dictated/altered due to job responsibilities, including non-business hours/weekends. Upon joining the Flow Cytometry clinical analysis team, participation in the weekend analysis rotation will be required.

Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

• Clinical Laboratory
  • Become successfully trained in all clinical laboratory benches
  • Successfully complete training in flow cytometric cell sorting for clinical use
  • Seamlessly assist in wet lab processing of clinical samples
• Quality Management
  • Become successfully trained in routine flow cytometry QC procedures
  • Assist with and develop an understanding of flow cytometer preventative maintenance and associated tasks
  • Work towards developing an understanding of CAP and other regulatory requirements
• Project Management
  • Assist with company research projects (internal R&D and external research) at discretion of flow cytometry director
  • Assist with validation projects (reagent, instrument, etc.) at the discretion of the flow cytometry director
  • Assist with quality improvement projects at the discretion of the flow cytometry director
• Data Analysis
  • Analyze flow cytometry data for research, validation, and quality improvement projects
  • Undergo training in clinical flow cytometry analysis under the direction of the flow cytometry director, medical director, and clinical scientists
  • Undergo training in drafting reports for clinical reports
  • At the discretion of the flow cytometry and medical director(s) take the flow cytometry clinical analysis initial proficiency testing
• Meetings/Administration
  • Participation in all Flow section meetings such as weekly team meetings
  • Present project findings at appropriate meetings as applicable

Qualifications**:**

• PhD in a physical or bioscience. Post-Doctoral experience in a hematology (or related) laboratory preferred. Clinical laboratory experience welcome
• Experience with flow cytometry instrumentation and analysis in a hematology and/or immunology setting
• Hematology and/or Immunology research experience required. Malignant hematology preferred
• Consistently exemplifies the highest attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong communication skills with all team members, including wet lab and analytical staff including the section Supervisor/Director
• Highly efficacious in organization, multi-tasking, and task completion in a work environment with competing priorities

Full-time physical presence at our Seattle laboratory is an essential job function of this role.
