Sonya Sawtell-Rickson has a strong professional background in the investment industry. Sonya currently serves as the Director on the Board of Directors for the Investor Group on Climate Change (IGCC) since July 2019. Prior to that, they worked as the Chief Investment Officer for HESTA starting from July 2017. Sonya also gained significant experience during their tenure at QIC, where they held various roles such as Investment Director, Global Multi-Asset from April 2012 to June 2017, and Head of Portfolio Management from January 2007 to April 2012. Sonya began their career at QSuper, initially working as the Manager of Corporate Finance from January 1999 to September 2001, and later as the General Manager of Investment Services.

Sonya Sawtell-Rickson completed their education by obtaining a GAICD certificate from the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2017. Sonya also holds a Master of Applied Finance degree from Macquarie University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics & Political Science from The University of Queensland. It is unknown if they studied at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) or earned any specific degree there.
