Dr. Habil. Thorsten Schindler

Director R&d Program Management at HIMA Group

Dr. habil. Thorsten Schindler has a diverse and extensive work experience in various roles and industries. From 2006 to 2010, they worked as a Scientific Research Assistant at TU München, where they developed a large multibody dynamics model for the analysis of pushbelt continuously variable transmissions. Dr. habil. Thorsten then joined Inria as a PostDoc, where they focused on developing numerical integration schemes for dynamical systems with nonsmooth effects.

In 2011, they became a Research Group Leader at TU München, responsible for numerical simulation at the Institute of Applied Mechanics. During this time, they won several grants, mentored PhD students, and collaborated on research projects and publications.

In 2015, Dr. Schindler joined ABB as a Senior Scientist & Project Lead in the field of Mechanisms & Actuators. Dr. habil. Thorsten was responsible for developing next-generation breaker prototypes for future grids, collaborating with business units, research centers, and strategic partners worldwide. Dr. habil. Thorsten also led an international research team in the area of Automation & Analytics, focusing on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics for Industry 4.0.

In 2023, they joined Dentsply Sirona as the Director of R&D Robotics & Controls. In this role, they led a team of 35 developers and served scrum teams for various workflows, including milling, printing, oral scanners, and cloud device integration. Dr. habil. Thorsten worked on cloud microservices, C++ development, and agile project management.

Currently, Dr. Schindler is the Director of R&D Program Management at HIMA Paul Hildebrandt GmbH, where they are responsible for overseeing program management in research and development.

Dr. habil. Thorsten Schindler completed their education at the Technical University of Munich. Dr. habil. Thorsten obtained a Diploma (M.S.) in Technomathematik, Robotics & AI from 2001 to 2006, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Applied Mechanics from 2006 to 2010. Dr. habil. Thorsten then pursued their Habilitation in Applied Mechanics from 2011 to 2017. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications in areas such as machine learning, leadership, power speech, agile leadership, project planning analysis & control, and negotiation techniques.
