Ej Lauter

EJ Lauter is an Investigative Analyst at the Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU) since July 2023, specializing in safety and security within the horseracing industry. Prior to this role, Lauter served as a Security Intern at Churchill Downs Racetrack, where collaboration with federal agencies and analysis of safety plans were key responsibilities. Additionally, Lauter gained research experience as a Research Assistant in both the Criminal Justice and Sociology departments at the University of Louisville, contributing to data collection and analysis. Lauter holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, both from the University of Louisville.

Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU)

The Horseracing Integrity & Welfare Unit (HIWU), a division of Drug Free Sport International, was created to serve as the independent enforcement agency of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority's (HISA) Anti-Doping and Medication Control program. The HIWU will establish a comprehensive and robust program that includes uniform testing protocols, adjudication processes and enforcement mechanisms to increase accountability and enhance the integrity of the competition for participants, fans and bettors.
